A primer on how Westport came to be should be the first thing on any itinerary. Visit the Rideau District Museum (29 Bedford St., website) for a look at the village’s history, through the many artifacts—dolls, looms, canoes, even farming tools—its citizens have collected and preserved for the past 60 years.

Looking for an inexpensive souvenir that has a lot of character? Mail a postcard from Westport to friends and family back home. Pick up a few at Pinecone of Westport (29 Church St.) and, once you’ve added your messages, head to Canada Post (39 Main St.) to have them sent.

The closest supermarket to Bobs Lake Cottages & Escapes is Kudrinko’s (22 Main St.). This family-owned, independent grocer has offered the community the freshest quality food since 1990.
take a walk around the lake
Sometimes, all you need to have a good time is a leisurely stroll next to a calming body of water. Head up to Westport Harbour to admire the view of Foley mountain (it gets even better during the fall!), watch boats dock at the marina, and stop for a picnic at Goat Island.
