The Great House
OUR WHOLE FAMILY LOVED IT!! And this was the winter– we cannot even imagine how gorgeous it would be in the summer! We had three generations staying in The Great House and we all loved it. My mother was wheelchair bound, so the handicap bedroom and bathroom made it possible for the whole family to stay together. I love to cook, so the huge kitchen made it a pleasure to cook for 15. And having a piano there was so special, as was having 5 bathrooms! We are hoping to come back for a family reunion since Marla told us we could rent all 5 houses and have the whole compound to ourselves.

We were ten for the night and had a great time. Check-in was easy and friendly. The place had everything we wanted and more. Exactly as advertised. Great kitchen! Great hot tub! Highly recommended for a weekend getaway. Would be amazing for a longer summer stay, too.

Great place for large family, lots of room, peaceful winter experience we all needed! Terrific appliances and loaded kitchen with everything needed for excellent meal making. Decent wifi, excellent bedrooms and bathrooms. Muskoka room too cold to use, would be great in the summer. Hot tub a nice bonus! Ice fishing at your own risk, and we loved it. A foot thick in early January, though really cold this year. Make sure you have snow tires on your vehicles. Friendly local hosts, really helpful.

We had an amazing stay at Marla’s cottage. The place looks better than the pictures and she was an amazing host. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this listing.

We spent a 3 nights at Marla’s place for a bachelorette (13 people). It was perfect! The service was incredible. Marla and her team helped us when we needed information. The place is beautiful and there is a lot of space and great furniture available. The lake is also gorgeous and kayak, canoe and paddle board were available. We would definitely go back and recommend staying there!

It’s hard to say whether the home was more amazing or the host was. Marla was incredible the entire time we were there and made sure we were taken care of in every single way possible. The property was more of a beautiful lake home than it was a cottage, but the layout made it simple to have our big group of 15 stay very comfortably. The grounds were in immaculate condition, like the rest of the house and the lake is absolutely perfect. We brought our boat even though Marla offers a wide selection of boats to rent and spent a lot of time on the water which made our weekend one we wont forget. There is not one thing that was lacking from this place and we will be back for sure as soon and as often as we can.

Great and very responsive host. She made sure everything was fine at all time. We had one small issue and it was resolved in less than an hour. The house itself is great and there was plenty of place for the 15 of us. We will definitely be back in the summer.

The Eagle’s Nest
Best. Cottage. Ever! Had a wonderful time with the family and we never wanted to leave! Beautiful lake views and our own dock with an endless variety of boats and things to do. Secluded and relaxing, a great vacation getaway

We were nine friends that stayed at The Eagle for a week and we loved it. The house is lovely and equipped with everything one might need and we made good use of the ice cream maker and had bbq for lunch and dinner every day. You can jump into the surprisingly warm water directly from the front of the house or head a few meters over to the dock. There are plenty of toys (paddle board, kayaks etc.) free to use, you can rent boats (we had a fishing boat and a pontoon for the weekends) and at night you can sit at the fire pit and make s’mores. We were sad to leave and want to come back. More and better photos can be found if you search for bobs lake cottages!

We spent a fantastic long weekend at this cottage over Labour Day, and both of us agreed – even though it was quite rainy and cool most of the weekend, it was one of the best weekends we’d had all summer. The cottage itself is picture-perfect. Bright, clean and very homey feeling. It has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. The highlight is definitely the view of the lake from the living room – floor to ceiling windows overlooking the lake. The indoor fireplace make it incredibly cozy on cooler nights. The front deck offers more spectacular views, and there’s a firepit right off to the side, where you can enjoy a campfire at the same times as the beautiful views of the lake. With canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, water toys, floating docks, etc, available to you, you can really make the most of your time. The lake is generally quite calm, great for those just learning to kayak or canoe, and the swimming is excellent (even in the rain). Finally, Marla was such a warm, accommodating host – ensured we had everything we needed, and went over and above to ensure we had a wonderful time. Our only regret is that we only discovered this place at the end of the summer – we can’t wait to return.

Marla was great! She and her husband were both very friendly and welcoming. We had a fairly large group and she was very accommodating to us all! She made sure we had everything we needed. The area is great, the view was great and the water was clean and perfect to swim in! We would love to stay with Marla and her husband again in the future!

The Lake House (Upper)
Marla was exceptionally accommodating and made our stay easy and enjoyable. Her cottage was beautiful and relaxing with the fireplace and hot tub as an added bonus! The view of the lake was incredible and I can’t wait to come back and visit in the summer time. Definitely recommend staying here at any time of the year! Thanks Marla!

Marla and Larry were fantastic hosts! From check in to check out we wanted for nothing. The cottage was the perfect combination of luxury and cottage life. Kitchen was well equipped for fabulous meals and don’t forget to bring the cream to finish those meals off with your own homemade ice cream!!! (Ice cream machines in the units) The abundance of lake toys (kayaks, canoes and paddle boards) and life jackets make for a great day of endless entertainment by the lake. As well as a wonderful park/treehouse that is sure to have even the big kids wondering…can I???lol Bobs Lake Cottages is the perfect place to bring a young family. And very pet friendly! Can’t wait to be back!

We stayed in the top unit of the duplex on Bob’s Lake and it was absolutely beautiful! The view of the lake was incredible, the cottage very comfortable and well equipped. Bob’s Lake was perfect for us – a beautiful, clean lake that was perfect for some family quality time swimming, kayaking and canoeing. We even saw some deer! We definitely hope to be back!

The cottage is so beautiful and surpassed all of our already high expectations! I cannot understate how fabulous they look—both units are superbly-finished, lack nothing in terms of amenities or comfort, and are punctuated by an incredible view and serene environment. We will be back!

Our stay at Morter’s on Bob’s Lake was great! Beautiful view of the lake from the huge front windows, relaxing atmosphere inside the cottage and out and Marla was an extremely friendly & helpful host. We’d definitely come back again!

The Lake House (Lower)
My friends and I are a group of designers, engineers, and artists who are simply drawn to beauty, harmony and nature. We travel and welcome new possibilities. To ring in the new year (2014), we decided to get away from the madness in Toronto and resort to a cottage accessible from Montreal (for those of us who live there). I found Bob’s Lake Cottages through an online search, and merely by accident and fell in love. The website was comprehensive, informative and clear. After corresponding with Marla, who had built the cottages and properties over the years, I was certain that this is the place we wanted to be for a few days. And it was magical. The cottages were beautifully designed, decorated and were well-equipped with everything that we needed, including comfortable rooms, beds, vintage pieces, kitchen appliances, hammocks, fireplace, wifi, and etc. We played board games, listen to music, and even though it was reported that Ontario had been colder than Mars and the North Pole during that time, we were warm and happy.
The Little House
We stayed with Marla for 5 days in the summer. The lake is beautiful and calm, we felt like we were on a private lake. The cottage was great and had amazing views. We arrived, settled in right away and were able to begin relaxing immediately. The cottage lived up to the photos and listing. We loved waking up in the morning and having coffees out on the beach, heading out for a swim and enjoying the lake. We also rented a boat from Marla so that we could go fishing and travel around the lake. We really loved our stay and definitely plan on coming back. Marla was also super helpful with different things and was easy to get a hold of throughout our stay.
Badour Island Wilderness Island Retreat
A real treasure!
Great location! Lovely Host! Comfortable cottage! I would definitely recommend a stay here, particularly for a large group or family (12-15 people).
Great island complex on beautiful lake
This vacation is for those wishing a true Ontario lake cottage experience. Bob’s Lake is wonderful, very beautiful vistas and sunsets, relatively underdeveloped (compared to the Muskoka’s), This compound is relatively old with a long staircase to the water (70+ steps) and complicated septic system. If you are looking for the convenience of road access, new construction, air conditioning, true flush toilets, etc., I would urge you to consider the other properties offered by the owner. I’ve toured them and they are quite modern. Back to Badour Island. The main cottage is stunning with an absolutely magisterial view from the main bedroom. You feel like you are living in the forest with 360 degree views and multiple screened windows. The main section of the cottage provides a great living area with couches, kitchen, and table. The main area of this section can be used to play ping pong or, as we did, to hang the wonderful hammock. The other two bedrooms are nice as well. The guest cottage has a different orientation so has different views to the West. Also a very nice cottage with small bedroom with bunk beds and a great bedroom on the second floor with it’s own balcony. The tree house is cute but we didn’t use it — would be suitable for one or two additional guests. There are three septic systems on the property. They are not hard to maintain properly but do require a bit of attention. We encountered no problems with this. The water is fabulous for swimming and is immediately very deep so perfect for diving. We loved the waterfront area with its decks, boats, and shed (with beer fridge). Marla was a great host who helped us through some of the minor annoyances of country living (like a power outage when we arrived) and ensured our stay was pleasurable. The surrounding area is fun to explore and there is a decent selection of groceries and other items in nearby communities. All in all, a very relaxing vacation in a very nice compound on a stunning lake.
We spent a long weekend at Marla’s place and it was not nearly enough time! There was a large group of us (12 people) and plenty of room to enjoy every moment. Marla responded quickly and to all questions before our arrival and helped coordinate plans so we had a smooth trip to the island. She checked in on us during the weekend and made it easy to reach her. The property is beautiful and plenty of activities. The lake and surrounding areas are breath taking, wish I was still there!
